@oathboundFamiliar IRC is pretty garbage as well, ngl...But I do agree with Discord being abused for the most scuffed things.Also a thing that annoys me is that if I want to share something with someone (say a thread that may give a solution or something), the other person must get an account as well and join that server (or I have to send screenshots which is also a pain)...

@wasabi @clov @oathboundFamiliar It's still not great for that. Require phone number very ofter, is partially owned by Tencent, centralized and does not have native desktop clients.Maybe when used in fullscreen or background and forget when and how it's connecting to network.

Ask anyone who simply wants to "chat" and "voice chat while gaming". They'll say discord is great.I know it's difficult to be objective and put our values, beliefs and opinions aside, but as a software originally designed for "this particular case", it's great.That's all there is to what I said, most people won't dive into IRC or Matrix simply because Discord is easier to operate for your typical user, because plot twist those people don't give a single shit if Discord is owned by X or works because of Electron, they view it as a tool to do what I said and that's all there is to it.But yeah, indeed, for anything outside of the original box, particularly the cases from OP of this thread, it sucks, there's no debate possible, Discord isn't for documentation, wikis, archives, etc.

Discard only enabled a generation of zoombies too illiterate to setup their own server (a real server, not a chatroom which is what Discard is) to feel like they own and operate a community platform.
