Josh Shapiro was an impressive candidate because he is an impressive person who cares about the needs of all Pennsylvanians. Shapiro made a big effort to listen to and work with people regardless of their personal politics long before he ran for governor. That paid off for him but also for Pennsylvania. He’s a rising star that we Democrats can count on now and for future higher political office and is just the kind of leader we need. Something Very Important for Democrats Just Happened in Pennsylvania-https://www.nytimes.com/2023/02/02/opinion/democrats-pennsylvania-college-degrees.html?unlocked_article_code=2LQZXdjUiA5imymOgYArgBRg3FBpmr-9G_B4vpQ9ndlKDAP0kj6WhAfdjUZKcU81i58wbRF530CYDWsnzW5-k3sTHNPGQ5DvQTZaWyVbzVA90q9pLQgtDIhvMAOOrxy0vpgO4iWvQ4ACIq_gW3hlTqBnvdbKw9Mqbyl11ebks3gCatvTBJAXIseTdhw-cFdGrvWiA6YdXli7LIc3RMATGM4l9JwO8IZHnLNEYko_haEkAc2UCtMxHzT4sMZlett1T8BxVtTsXXFZwTHpP3c6TkbZAYDXx10SfzKdzfj-rk0Qa-W_nkf-YpWq2GoWsJc1giaCE2E4rTLqIay9dHLRPH8t6dN8eUVyE4eWehuCRCG6&smid=share-url

@TonyStark my bad, read it. Good move on his behalf. If only we could get that nationally.

@SteveRogers @TonyStark Counterpoint. Local and state elected officials have an enormous impact on people’s lives. Democrats have to stop thinking of them as a farm team for national office. Republicans realized decades ago that if you control the state legislatures, you can thwart progress and create a competitive autocracy. We want our best and brightest in state offices.

@jackiegardina @SteveRogers Yeah, you need an actual farm team. Governors with a good track record can be drawn on for future endeavors if they want. Kind of necessary.

@TonyStark @SteveRogers the point I’m making is that when we use the term “farm team” - and I understand why we do - it diminishes the power of state legislatures and local governments. They can do more to damage or aid citizens than the federal government. Congress or the President cannot “fix” what school boards or state legislatures are doing to education, etc. Local and state elected officials are the “big leagues” for most issues.

@SteveRogers @jackiegardina Nobody is doing that here. It’s all equally important. I mean, I don’t think I need to explain why winning the White House is just as important as a school board election. They all count and we have to have people with good experience move on and up in some cases or we have nobody to…move.Farm isn’t a bad word. It’s development. Shapiro has moved up through different levels, for example. That’s how it works.

@TonyStark @SteveRogers No, you don’t need to explain it to me. I understand how it works.

@SteveRogers @jackiegardina Great! Shapiro can only serve 2 consecutive terms as PA governor at the end of which he’ll only be 57. Tons of time for him to do anything he wants after that.

@TonyStark Gretchen Whitmer said she's going to serve out her second term as Michigan governor. She'll be 55 when she's termed out. Shapiro should serve his two terms. 44-year-old Wes Moore in Maryland should serve his two. Maura Healey in Massachuetts isn't subject to term limits but she can stay a while and do good there. She's 52 next week. A bunch of Democrats right at prime age to be governor, vice president, president, be tapped for the Cabinet of one of those contemporaries, or run for Senate when someone in their state retires. @SteveRogers @jackiegardina
