So as a general question for the community, what can be done to strengthen -- and even further -- the alliance between progressive and moderate Democrats? I'm not talking lip service common ground, but real compromise and general shared values. As an aside, I'm a progressive Democrat but welcome more moderate members of the party to answer.#progressives #moderates #politics #uspol #uspolitics

@stopgopfox I think they are not so far apart as imagined. Pete's a good guy and a good boss and Elizabeth Warren is as good as we have in the Senate. What matters most is being able to deliver, which takes a lot more skill than making promises.

@stopgopfox I think “progressives” could tone it down and not scare the pants off everyone in the middle. * I actually think they have been better at this of late.

@stopgopfox Self-admission: I am *extremely* liberal. But here's what I see being needed:1) Progressives/liberals need frequently to accept less than 100% of what we want, as some is always better than none.2) Centrist/moderates need to remember that popular, progressive measures get them elected and energize the Dem base, not pandering to conservatives for votes they'll never get. Enough with the 'bi-partisanship' fetish. GOPers can't be negotiated with in good faith anymore.

@Myrha As OSCrane said, very well put. Honestly, we need to start talking about bipartisanship as the unity between progressives and moderate Democrats. In most European countries, those would be separate parties forming a coalition. Unity and compromise shouldn't be contingent on finding common ground with Nazis and basement-dwelling incels who attend Nazi rallies.

@stopgopfox for the rest of the (parliamentary) world - if you want global suggestions that is - this is the traditional liberal conservative wing vs the corrupt reactionary right wing ...so my advice is to watch the Tories in the UK to see how to unify the U.S. Democratic Party (who aren't really "that" progressive tbh)

@OSCrane Excellent and checking it out. As an avid game fan, by the way, what type of stuff do you develop?

@stopgopfox Personally, I only have one project in the works that I have gone as far on as I can without investment money that I don't have access to. Though I do develop assets and do odd jobs here and there for mod projects, indie animations, microprojects and the like. The stuff that I am working on right now is basically all retro style stuff. My current project is a side-scrolling space shooter with a bunch of modern elements attached to bring it up to modern standards.

@OSCrane Your current project sounds interesting. Bringing stuff to modern standards is a real tightrope walk. I just finished God of War: Ragnarok which was excellent, but now looking for something more retro.

@stopgopfox When I say modern standards, it's less grand than something like Ragnarök would entail, lol. I more mean that I am putting an increased emphasis on replayability and emergent gameplay, rather than purely on mechanical difficulty and high score acquisition that plagued the arcade generation.I am exploring a similar design philosophy as something like FTL or Darkest Dungeon and replacing the strategic elements with a skill-based one in the actual shooting gameplay.

@OSCrane Ragnarok was about as grand as they come. I need to play FTL after playing Into the Breach.

@stopgopfox I’m progressive and moderate. I know that most any Democrat is better than most any Republican.

@stopgopfox @Myrha It’s unrealistic to “find common ground” with extremists who are hell-bent on partisan hatred. Mine is a hard line. They have no interest in promoting growth. Their goal is to attack and deconstruct our institutions, and destroy all with whom they disagree. How could progress occur, when this is the intent? They should not be lawmakers when the goals are raw power and destruction. Trying to find common ground with them is a fool’s errand.

@stopgopfox .... RCV, please. The genuine left loses, routinely, to a primary-balloting process that permits the choice of only two candidates; a flamboyant catastrophe repeating itself in the presidential election, later.

@stopgopfox Nothing can be done to strengthen the alliance between liberals and so-called progressives. It’s a fleeting alliance of necessity while the progressives consolidate power. The progressives are working on a hostile takeover of the Democratic Party and won’t stop until they have driven out the liberals and replaced them with their own populist-Marxist agenda, which is white-centric and ignores the desires of Black voters.
