       What would it have cost him if Elon Musk had started his own Twitter alternative?All of the weird nerds that worship him would have shown up. He could have paid a bunch of big accounts a pittance to move there and draw a lot more people. He could have even just forked Mastodon like Trump did.What would a completely deluxe version of this this have cost? Like $50 million max?

       Elon doesn’t want a “Twitter Alternative”.He doesn’t even want “Twitter”.He has very publicly stated he wants to create the West’s version of China’s “WeChat”.He wants to create a one-stop network of chatting, finance (a’la PayPal), and e-commerce.All under his “X.com” domain and umbrella that PayPal originally ran under before he sold it to Ebay.He bought Twitter for the IP and infrastructure.And he thinks he can turn Twitter into another version of “WeChat”.He couldn’t do that with Mastodon.

       @Chris Most celebrities aren't tech-savvy enough to understand how any of this works, and what resources are available to host your own platform.Most alternative right platforms are or have been buggy at times.I thought it was nice that #Trump used #Soapbox and #Mastodon for #TruthSocial, so infrastructure-wise the platform should be set. But his platform's rules cap its growth and make it a suffocating echo chamber, without much intelligent or interesting conversation beyond "bro check out this headline" or "MAGA WINS YAAAAAAH"

       @Chris the point of buying twitter was the brand amd to attack normies. starting his own like trump did doesnt have the same effect and could take a decade to  become relevant
