An NFT exists, someone owns it (other than creator). Then what? Are they the only person who can listen to it? Does the NFT owner get royalties from use (why, they don't own the music itself?)The NFT doesn't track the full usage of the music. That would be useful.Am I missing something?I would love if a file type existed, I could export from sequencer and every single usage logged accurately and immutably. That would be cool!NFTs don't. So what's the point?

@mxtthxw NFTs could be a way to sell music (not rights to it) and track purchases. Think of it as a record in the sales database.

@mxtthxw @roboneko @mxtthxw @newt it's like a signed copy of a book, CD, record, etc. means nothing, but still desirable to some people

@mxtthxw @roboneko @mxtthxw @newt although, there's no real need to use blockchain to implement autographs. just digitally sign a timestamp + plus the name of the item

@mxtthxw @roboneko @mxtthxw @newt the problem with using it as a ticket is that whoever interprets the ticket is a point of centralisation that you can't get away from. you might as well just use plain digital signatures, or a centralised Chaumian solution if you want to be able to transfer them to others

@mxtthxw NFTs are snake oil. There is no legal implications of owning an NFT, someone else could own copyright and usage rights.Everyone should watch this. It's three hours but I couldn't stop watching.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YQ_xWvX1n9g

@osiris @mxtthxw Line Goes Up is brilliant - well worth a watch for anyone starting to become moderately interested in NFTs and Crypto in general!

@mxtthxw @roboneko @mxtthxw @newt what does decentralising the marketplace via blockchain get you? seems to me a Chaumian mint would work fine and even be more private. the privacy, if done right, would also eliminate the problem of censorship.as for games, that's a good point. I agree there

@paul @osiris Will take a look, cheers Paul.I'm not about to get caught up in some next hype. I can already see the narrative building... Whilst I'm utterly clueless about a lot of things, I do try to keep up just a bit!

@roboneko @Hyolobrika @newt Indeed, I get that, and as I just said to someone else, I try to keep up with the tech and welcome folks pointing out where I'm wrong. With regards to the gaming thing. Right now the use of a token or NFT would be a taxable event. Not something I think the average game player would want, that's a lot of friction!

@roboneko @Hyolobrika @newt But from an artist/writer perspective, currently for specifically music files, NFT would only be sharing the rights to the music with someone, who could trade that receipt on the open market. It doesn't track usage or ownership of the music itself, the music can be easily copied so, other than selling the receipt, what else?I have a pretty good understanding already, have delved into the technology more broadly.

@roboneko @Hyolobrika @newt event tickets make sense from an artist perspective, especially seeing how rotten the secondary market is on tickets.
