@graf from what I've seen the mc is from the inner city or something so makes sense that they couldn't swim. It's not a stereotype but a fact that most blacks can't swim, but it's mostly city blacks. I live in a smaller southern town and all the blacks here I know can swim

It's also safe to assume that the bar to pass "some swimming ability" is very lenient, so the numbers look even worse in that light.

@moth_ball why are the numbers talking about children? Wouldn't it make more sense to read a stat about adults, since they are past the age at which they are likely to learn? The number of white adults in this country is way below 40% or that's a corrupt study

@Mumu if you dont learn at that age you will not learn later, or the number of people who do is insignificant. Same applies to literacy after a certain point.

@moth_ball well no shit you learn literacy in 1st grade, that's 6 for most kids. I believe a lot of kids learn to swim after that though. I don't believe you can compare the two. You have to at least go up to 12 for the swimming thing. I think if they haven't learned by 12 then they probably won't. To be fair 12 is still a child, but the stat would still have to be teens afterwards, because just saying "children" includes anyone under 18
