Nice distorted y axes. Like a 10% difference in the richest and poorest.

@Xenophon @dave It's also a weird dichotomy. Someone closer to precarity needs to instill discipline if the kid is to survive, let alone succeed, for failson fuckups that barely dent a trust funder may bring ruin to the working man.

@RupertvonRipp @Xenophon Intergenerational wealth is usually exhausted within a few generations in the USA. The fuckups do eventually destroy the dynasty over successive generations.

@Xenophon @dave That has to be one of the most egregious examples of it I have ever seen. Each and every graph is using wildly different ranges with no consistency at all.

@dave @Xenophon Reducing fuckups sounds like a good decision, then.

@InquisitorVendee @Xenophon If you plotted the global temperature rise of the last 150 years in celsius with the y-axis starting at 0C, the trend looks insignificant. If you plotted it in kelvin, it’s basically a flat line, despite still being quite significant. If the goal is to mislead the viewer into believing the wealthiest decile is 10x more independent than the poorest, then yeah it’s bad. But if you’re not trying to imply that, and instead just making it easy to see the trend, the axis truncation makes sense.

These sorts of graphs are always doing the former and not the latter.
