Sci-fi concept: Humans evolved as persistence predators, and many of the things we can do still echo that. Endurance. Concentration. Ambition. What would an intelligent species look like if it evolved from a different behaviour? What about scavengers, like crabs? Gatherers, like bees? Or nurturers, like trees? What might be similar? What might be different?

@XanIndigo I'd like to know what an intelligent species with very pronounced sexual dimorphism would be like. Imagine males being completely stupid and only have their use for reproduction. All the civilization work has to be done by females. What does it mean in this society to be trans? What to be inter? Nonbinary?Combine this with a bee hive structure.

@turion Yes, or if there are some who are just mindless drones. Or if they evolve between them. Maybe they might start male and become female or vice versa.

@XanIndigo @turion Ruthanna Emrys has a short story in which full sapience is a temporary life stage for a species that emerges from the water and a limited time to try and help research what their own species deal is, and then gradually universally goes through a kind of cognitive collapse and returns to the water. Their sapient life stage is a non-reproductive one, so there is an ongoing tension between wanting to prolong that sapient stage and their desire to have their keep being more people.The collection is called Imperfect Commentaries.
