We should not trust that an average person running a server can handle complex moderation problems. Broad-based anonymity enables malicious actors to grow massive dormant troll farms, waiting for the day to start manipulating. @stwhite Pleroma, in and of itself isn't problematic. In fact, in many ways, it's got better moderation options than Mastodon. Thing is, Pleroma (along with Soapbox-FE) have built a sort of reputation amongst trolls. Thus, it becomes the instance of choice for trolls. Much like anything that has a reputation, these things become self-reinforcing.
