@adam @Johncdvorak In case no other Xbox users have spoken up …Yes, we've always been able to set our Xboxes to either sleep or completely power down when we turn it "off." Sleep mode allows it to automatically update and install games, be triggered by other integrations (remote play, Alexa, etc.), and turn on quickly.Powering off obviously consumes far less power. What I wonder is whether MS will force all "sleep only" units to switch to power off. But my own Xbox hasn't switched, yet.

@theDanielJLewis @adam @Johncdvorak Playstation does this too. MS decided to brand it and roll with it for social credit points.

@adam @Johncdvorak _I_, however, might switch to fully powering off to save on my own electric bill.

@theDanielJLewis @adam @Johncdvorak There is a smart way to do this (so they probably won't implement it...) Simply allow sleep mode unless hard powered-off every night for 4-5 hours, then switch off till next power-on. To immediately power-off has huge disadvantages from a user standpoint, because part of the reason for it is easy downloads of updates while not playing, and usually during off-peak internet hours, which are more efficient anyway.

@BlueDouche @adam @Johncdvorak Yeah, I'd love something like that. Like "power off when updates are complete" and maybe a schedule to check for updates once or twice a week and then shut back off completely. But I think even that kind of schedule requires some level of sleep mode.I should put my Kill-o-Watt device on my Xbox to see how much power it actually consumers in its power modes.

@theDanielJLewis Yup... because back to the PS2/X360 days, that "I'm home, I wanna play my new game, but it's a 30 minute wait for update on slow, over-saturated network time of day" thing was horrible, and doesn't sell new systems.

@theDanielJLewis LOL.Especially a big problem early in the release cycle, because so many bug-fix patches the first few months after release.

@BlueDouche 1 line of code to fix a bug = 40 GB patch.
