@RitchieTorres The data show otherwise. Criminals by definition don't care what the law is, so restrictions just make it safe for the criminals and nut jobs. Places without permits for concealed carry have fewer mass shooting casualties, not more.

@Str8nger @RitchieTorres 25 of the 50 states are already open carry. The states with the most mass shootings are not among them. Additionally most homicides take place in cities with tight gun control laws, such as Chicago.

@Str8nger @RitchieTorres It was useless. it was just based on the look of a gun and had nothing to do with how lethal it was and such weapons are rarely used in mass shootings. and here is a tip. Criminals (and shooters are criminals by definition) don't care about gun laws and in most mass shootings, the gun laws are being broken.

It's the difference between the statistics as they apply to the set and the probability as it applies to an individual in the set, and which set is which. I'm going to give you an even more striking example now.As you might know, cops in the U.S. shoot twice as many blacks than whites. However, consider that blacks commit 5 times more crimes. So, if we use that number as a proxy for a probability of confronting a cop, we find that it's far more dangerous to do when white.If you are not in the set that is likely to engage into shootouts, carrying a gun is a safety enhancement. You do not belong to the set over which the average is taken, which is the original fallacy.
