There was some belief within MS that almost every machine has working TPM etc for Windows 11 since a decade ago due to manufacturer requirements. I'm guessing that view has clashed with reality by now. In my enterprise org, there's mid 5 figures of endpoints which can't pass the Win11 setup requirements - 99.9% of that is TPM and Processor (basically TPM) requirements.

@GossiTheDog I've debated whether the Win10 EOL is far enough out for most of the systems we have to hit replacement cycles by then, but realistically we extend system life to ~8 years in some cases, particularly in academic departments. And honestly, with modern hardware with multi-core CPUs and SSDs as a default they'll likely continue to perform quite well for that lifespan. So then it's a debate about forced obsolescence due to OS EOL - and that's what'll happen to us.

@davidseidl yep. The depressing thing is MS know this, and stand to directly benefit from it - gotta sell those Surface devices.

@GossiTheDog @davidseidl there's no way people are buying Surfaces regularly considering the battery cells stop working in ~18 months and firmware updates are terrible…right…?
