@kino@fedi.intkos.link note that T420 and W520 can be upgraded to Ivy Bridge quad cores.this makes T420's dGPU useless and W520 nearly so.

My T420 (regular) has been with me for about 7 years, the hinge that closes the laptop is nearly broken, the speakers no long work, and the trackpad is completely broken but I still use it daily. My only complaint with it is that disassembly requires a hex screwdriver and you need to reapply the thermal paste whenever you want to take the mainboard out of the frame.The dock is great too, it has dual displayport and DVI-D. If you coreboot it then you can use libre wireless.

I can't get an T400 since that won't do the job (GMA 4500 doesn't support OpenGL 3.0, ATI is even worse unless paired with proprietary software). T420 is just the best I can do :cirno_shrug:But it does run Trisquel and soon coreboot with neutered ME.

@meso Yes, sometime after 2008, the intel ME is used for init in Intel CPU's, so you can't boot without it.You can't replace the ME init software, as Intel makes tyrant CPUs that refuse to boot ME software that isn't signed by a key from Intel and Intel refuses to provide such key.
