@cattailnu In the warm current of the shallow reef, the Ph'thrylk thrived. It's tentacled limbs each topped with a lure for anything reckless to approach. Patiently, it waited for dusk and its bioluminescence to attract the next meal. Little escaped the gaze of its huge eye. Smaller tendrils around the carapace would warn it of motion in any direction. And there were predators, swift and vicious that it feared. The spawning season drew near, and with it a plunge into the depths, for safety.

Bubbles rose in a torrent and he swam free, then down. Bud carefully drifted downward. Something hair-sized would be easily disturbed. It was. The act of swimming independently inevitably blocked currents, redirecting water, creating eddies. Green-grey detritus swirled up, then started settling in a cascade. Soon, for all Bud's effort to pump it away, the muck covered the flashing hair. For it's part, the rigid hair-thing swam away horizontally on a water current like a miniaturized polyp, but even traveling its length every ten units, it was horribly slow.I wasn't sorry to see it buried. I was sorry to see Bud drift away as our tenuous comm line faded to watery silence; I'd hoped Bud would extend our own Coenosac. We'd have another coral community to deal with in the next year; maybe it would be friendly because I'd kept Bud around as long as I could, pampering him. I lifted, freeing the basal plate a crunch and a muddy squelch. The seafloor darkened and upwelling bubbles sparkled around us as I rubbed away the agonizing cramp. I slapped Poly and she blinked, protecting that deep blue entrancing eye of hers.I scoffed. @cattailnu It was truly soothing. The liquid soothed the anger in at least some of their extensions. The casting light continued to remind them of what happened though. To them, time seemed to stand still. To the rest of existence, a few millennia had passed. However, no amount of time passing will ever erase its memory of what happened; of how the Lichthians had taken everything from it, leaving it a withered husk. This liquid would help though. It would finally know relief. And then...
