Americanized discourse only recognizes slavery on the basis of ethnicity, and I spend way too much time here, so I rarely remember that my ancestors on my grandma's side were literal actual slaves (up to late 19th century). But they were.

@comrade_lecter Aye, slavery is not an ethnic problem, it is a human problem. That is to say, humans have done it for thousands upon thousands of years, despite having a good reason to anticipate it being immoral, and so the correction of that is..... gonna take longer then people may like simply on the grounds that the status quo doesn't like not being a thing, and, despite our advances, lack of slavery is not, yet, the status quo.

@comrade_lecter POC can and did own slaves, and even in certain countries, severe racism based on recent slavery is still incredibly common (especially in the Middle East) there’s still slurs for Ethiopians and Phlipinos (???) based on them being recent slaves
