Based off the comments on @senficon 's article alone a lot of people don't seem to understand how #code and #copyright works:https://felixreda.eu/2021/07/github-copilot-is-not-infringing-your-copyright/There are only finite amounts how one can solve a technical issue in any programming language:One cannot copyright simple functions and there are only finite ways to make something work.In fact, I'd argue that if anything is wrong, then it's copyright on code.

@kkarhan @senficon why is this being argued now, that #Microsoft has made a product from it.Would they agree, if somebody published the #Windows source code, that copyright didn't apply there because you couldn't copyright code.

@senficon But Stallmanists are just useful idiots and would rather want to see everyone suffer than accept any reasonable argument. That's why they recommend 14 year old #ThinkPad|s with an already starved parts market that thus fetch an absurd premium and a "GNU/Linux" 🤢 :vomit: Distro like #Trisquel that NOBODY I KNOW uses except to #meme about it.https://youtu.be/8VoVjNlL_FI?t=288 via @BrodieOnLinux

@csddumi @senficon The problem is that code on it's own isn't copyrightable when broken down to atomicity of single lines.Otherwise every composer and every musician who ever played any song or read any sheet music that was ever copyrighted would violate copyright per concept."Learning" isn't copyrightable - otherwise schoolbook publishers would have IP rights on every school graduates' works in perpetuality.https://twitter.com/eevee/status/1410037309848752128

@kkarhan @senficon What these algorithms are doing and what a human does when studying are not both "learning" - in the sense that they perform the same activity. So, rules for one do not apply to the other necessarily.

@kkarhan @senficon I'm generally not interested or capable of making a judicial argument about the applicability of copyright. I can just make the observations, that:- AI Models are not learning as humans are. Thus rules for the one are not necessarily applicable to the other.- #Microsoft using #FOSS to sell it's product, while historically being a stansh opponent of it, is opportunistic and exploitative.
