One of the most effective things we can start doing as a community is to begin legitimizing and normalizing independent and low/no-budget technology. We are so used to being spoon-fed shiny marketing gimmicks as our primary way of validating technology. If we can break the paradigm that it needs to be "shiny" to be "effective" we can do anything.

@egypt So check out @marcan's work on Asahi Linux. In my opinion this is the most progressive and most exciting distribution of Linux available today. This project is in another league compared to the other Linux Operating Systems. However it doesn't have a keynote in front of thousands of people, or an in-person sponsor showcase with knife throwing and a magician on site. We need to support indie tech, such as Asahi Linux.

Asahi Linux is promoting a solution for shiny hardware that doesn't really work on a budget either. I don't think that's a good example. We should be promoting solutions for non-shiny hardware, open source hardware solutions like say PinePhone and the open source systems it supports like Plasma Mobile. These need to grow into its own instad of supporting proprietary shiny hardware platforms from OEMs that have a continious history of shafting its users.

The Raspberry Pi is an ecosystem which is based on proprietary technologies and masquerading as an open source friendly unfortunately.

Yes, multiple ARM vendors that all require custom kernels and none of which boot mainline or require some weird fucked up Device Tree. Any ARM SoC vendors out there support UEFI, besides the old Microsoft devices with locked bootloaders?

@nova I feel like "we" in this post is a very small subset of people.
