This article by @tomcritchlow captures a whole bunch of ideas that are deeply relevant to my goals for @datasette and related projects: https://tomcritchlow.com/2023/01/27/small-databases/"We’ve built many tools for publishing to the web—but I want to make the claim that we have underdeveloped the tools and platforms for publishing collections, indexes and small databases. It’s too hard to build these kinds of experiences, too hard to maintain them and a lack of collaborative tools."

@simon @tomcritchlow @datasette this all sounds really cool. I have a few personal databases I use FileMaker for which is nice because I have Mac and iPhone/iPad versions I can use but it’s expensive and I feel a little trapped. Would love to have a more open solution that I can have on my devices that could also be published to the web too.

@simon Thank you, this was great. Have you ever thought of building a “Substack for databases” with Datasette? That sure captures the idea very neatly.

@shajith I've been quietly working on a https://datasette.cloud SaaS hosted product - the initial focus for that was private data collaboration in closed groups but I'm rethinking that to better support publishing as well

@simon that sounds fantastic. If I had to pick between “small data for teams” and “publishing-first airtable/notion”, I’d lean more towards the latter, but I think there’s room for both those paths. Excited to see where this goes.
