when people say stuff like “sex is down there [genitals] and gender is up here [psychology]”, they are making up a distinction that is not used in science or medicinethe main problem we face with gender recognition is gross oversimplifications like thisthe categorization of sexes and their expression is multifacetedthe concept of some overarching, singular “spiritual sex” that is a person’s “real sex” just is not reflective of reality

if you wanna say that your gonadal expression of sex is irrelevant in politics, I agree with youyour social sex is generally the only thing that is relevant in politicsyour gonads might be relevant when talking to your doctor about organ healthyour chromosomal sex might be relevant when talking to your doctor about genetic risksthat said, these are wholly separate things and the conflation of them into “sex” is entirely socially constructed

there are so many different potential expressions, metrics, and categorizations for sex that get wholly wiped awayI do not think that conflating more “soft science” metrics like psychological and social sex together and calling them “gender” and trying to construct a distinction between those and the “hard science” metrics while granting them the label “sex” is really getting to the root of that
