@zakiuem@mk.absturztau.be @gamercat@shota.house @splitshockvirus@mstdn.starnix.network I know Germany 🇩🇪 has invited in foreign workers due to the labor shortage (one of the side effects of a declining population), but I think governments need to figure out why their population is declining & come up with a solution to remedy it.Immigration is one way to solve it, but then the culture of your country will morph into something radically different.I am surprised there is not a massive study looking into the diet of the population, social habits, expensive of starting a family, etcetera. I know in the United States 🇺🇸 they give families tax breaks for every child they have in order to encourage the public to have more kids. Maybe Japan 🇯🇵 could do the same‽

@darnell @zakiuem @gamercat Declining birthrate is a symptom of an industrialized society, more people work, the less time they have to raise children.Conversely more people exist on the planet than ever before, however the population doesn't continue rising forever.

@splitshockvirus @darnell @zakiuem @gamercat I don't think that industrialized society is the core of the problem. Rural lifestyle wasn't about leisure either — you had to work in the field all day just to feed your family and maybe make a little more.Like you said, it can't grow forever — because planet's resources are limited, but they weren't that scarce when industrial revolution happened so population boomed and living standards grew at the same time. Modern people don't want to go back to lower living standards just to have more children.And I don't see why it is the problem in the first place — yeah, they used to have like 20 children in past centuries because 10 of them could die from some stupid ass infection before reaching their teens. Because they didn't have basic things like healthcare or even running water at home. This is no longer the case, I don't see any problem with having less children. We don't have enough jobs that pay well for the population we already have, what is the solution — make people work in sweatshops just to keep birthrate rising? By now children have greater chance to die from cancer or contaminated water because industrial production to handle all that population comes at a cost.TL;DL There was a brief period when you could have many children and still make a living, but that's precisely it — it was brief, resources are limited, it wasn't sustainable and couldn't last forever.
