Non-violent protest works up until a point. It's good for bringing things to the attention of others. But once the men in power with the guns decide they've had enough, how far do you think your "peace and love" will get you? Some things must be fought for, sometimes with blood and bone. There's no changing that with optimistic, positive thinking. There's evil people in the world that only understand one thing, and sometimes it is necessary to give it to them so they learn.

@mrvapor Yet non-violent protests can be surprisingly effective, even against literal Nazishttps://nvdatabase.swarthmore.edu/content/german-wives-win-release-their-jewish-husbands-rosenstrasse-protest-1943

@DrDanMarshall Never said they weren't effective, and they're even preferred over the alternative. But at some point, they don't have the power to affect the change necessary, in some circumstances, usually quite extreme. When the people in power want to retain their power... well, they have better means than shouting slogans to shut us down.

@mrvapor yep. I'm not a pacifist myself. But if it worked against Nazis in 1943, probably has more power than we expect. The Nazis did not exactly have a shortage of tanks and rifles at that point. But even they were a bit reluctant to use them against German women.
