A key aspect of the Nichols case -- that it seems almost nobody wants to mention -- is that since all of the officers involved and the victim were black, the usual racial aspect that is so common in these kinds of cases is not present. How this will affect the case and public perception going forward is very much an open question.

@lauren This will quickly be explained as "systemic racism," as it has been before across the world and among different races. It is the modern equivalent of calling someone an Uncle Tom.

@amerika @lauren It's always been police vs. the community. The race or ethnicity of the officers is only relevant with respect to the fact that officers are facing actual charges this time, BEFORE the video is released. The only other time I can think of in recent memory with a similar outcome was the Somali cop who shot and killed the white lady in Minnesota.

@lauren Didn't matter in that other case, I think in Baltimore. Dude died after a bunch of black cops(shout to KRS-ONE) forgot to secure him in the back of the paddy wagon.
