Thinking of that time when I opined that NFTs are pyramid schemes and a cryptobro corrected me, saying that pyramid schemes and Ponzi schemes are different things.I mean, he was not wrong, of course.

@rysiek I've bought a fair few NFTs. It's a technology that can do many things. Some are art/music where I want to support the creator. Others are game items that have applications to progress in the game. I'm less interested in those that are just generated as 'collectables'. People buy all sorts of crap and that's their choice. I just think blanket dismissals of a technology can be wrong. Not sure if I count as a 'cryptobro' anyway. Not how I identify.

@steevc @rysiek I hope you enjoy your jpegs :p There are ways of supporting the artists without actively supporting technology that destroys the environment.

@sotolf @rysiek Not all NFTs involve massive amounts of processing. There are blockchains that do not rely on 'proof of work'.

@steevc @sotolf ermahgerd we have someone actually shilling for NFTs in this thread? Whoa. :blobcataww:Blanket dismissal of technology and the community around it that is ripe with scams and not in the least willing to try to deal with that problem is an entirely reasonable strategy. If you want to support artists, support them directly instead:https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2021/04/nfts-werent-supposed-end-like/618488/NFTs are a scam:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YQ_xWvX1n9g

@rysiek"Sick of people calling everything in crypto a Ponzi scheme. Some crypto projects are pump and dump schemes, while others are pyramid schemes. Others are just standard issue fraud. Others are just middlemen skimming of the top. Stop glossing over the diversity in the industry."
