It is, that's why we're moving to GNU+Hurd and HyperbolaBSD. I don't think you kept up with the news, the concerns were risen a long time ago.

@nyx I was writing about the Linux foundation, which handles the proprietary version of the kernel, Linux (while also using macbooks and macos in the proprietary software meetings).Linux was proprietary software from the very start (although free for a short while), so it wasn't exactly "subverted".Meanwhile GNU Linux-libre hasn't been subverted by corporations, as there's no proprietary software in it.Corporations have tried to subvert GNU for years, but they have and they will forevermore fail.

@nyxHe's at least partially correct, the reason why Linux was subverted was simply because Linus isn't a libre software advocate by any stretch of imagination, he doesn't give a shit. The name "GNU+Linux" was partly made to distance GNU from Linux, not to appropriate Linux. Unlike calling it "GNU" or "Linux."@Suiseiseki

@blyss_files @voidandnil I've used linux for years, but my main OSes these days are *BSD (FreeBSD and OpenBSD). I would still use linux over mac/windows if I couldn't use *BSD (like for gaming), but foss people treating linux as some kind of ideal has really worn thin on me over time for a lot of reasons

@nyx @voidandnil i like freebsd when i was using it. if i still felt strongly about knowing how everything i use works i probably would be back with it. it felt electromechanical but clean

@nyx @blyss_files even using linux and (for the most part) enjoying it now everything feels so cobbled together and based on a few dependencies where nearly nothing would work without them lol

@voidandnil @blyss_files that's pretty much the main problem I have with linux and why I like *BSD better. the linux desktop is an absolute clusterfuck, and while *BSD is simpler and sometimes you need linux desktopisms to get a normal desktop to work, they're also simple and work well and stay out of my way

@nyx @voidandnil yesss exactly. usually i setup arch & just blackbox the parts i don’t like or understand. and then after all the conjuring i end up taking the easy path anyway. screw it i’ll use a dm. and a radio manager. and i forgot all the commands when something breaks. and it looks like suspend breaks audio so i need a complicated strapon. i’m sure BSD isn’t the land of milk and honey but if i can learn to live without a few things i could have a good time

@blyss_files @voidandnil yeah I mean I feel like I maybe have an exceptional desktop experience compared to a lot of people, because part of why I use the WM that I use (StumpWM) is because it's written in a language I know pretty well, aside from also just liking it as a WM. so I keep my setup minimal and also as comprehensible for myself as I can, and it helps that *BSD has a good base of software that is developed alongside the OS and documented well with sane interfaces (as far as UNIX goes at least). so aside from a few specific things I need, I'm mostly able to keep my desktop within the realm of being comprehensible

@cyberspook >Khe-khem, Rust, khe-khem.The solution to that is to simply not have a Rust compiler installed - thus whatever Rust won't even be used.Additional patches are welcome to remove the Rust.
