It is telling that the Transport Minister didn’t even bother to contact VIA Rail about the chaos over the Christmas period.Doing so would have indicated that he showed a level of care in that Crown Corporation.The Federal Government has proven over decades now that they do not care about land transportation in this country.That’s why VIARail is a cruel joke (even on a sunny day in July) and bus transportation has essentially collapsed.#canpolihttps://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/via-rail-holiday-delays-transport-committee-1.6726889

Now don’t get me wrong. VIARail is *also* a horribly managed company for allowing its customers to *literally* sit in the cold for days. But maybe, just maybe, this would have been a lot less likely to happen if VIA Rail was treated like a first-class transportation option by our Federal (and provincial) governments. Canada and the USA are wed to car culture and “cheap” air travel, and it has created two of the worst transportation systems in the entire world.We are embarrassing.

@chrisale Yep, it's so bad that traveling the vast country by driving one's self is more convenient, even with limited EV charging options and hour long waits to finish charging.
