       It’s great that you can join the fediverse for free. But remember that you are someone’s tenant.After the last place I lived was sold to a fascist slumlord, I decided that I wanted to homestead instead of rent.Taking control of my presence in the fediverse hasn’t been cheap. It costs me about $10 a month to host my own instance. It has occasional downsides when it comes to discovery. It also has a learning curve. But I’ve found the other homesteaders are kind and have great advice.
