       I joined mastodon to try and share with yall what it's like being a black kid growing up in Houston TX. I've shared some stories and will keep doing so.First myth gotta blow is all black kids growing up in the hood in a gang!That is simply not true!I live in what trip advisor call a ' sketchy neighborhood ' what they mean its a black hood!Yeah I fw guys in gangs but it's not the norm to be in a gang. Media just call any group of friends a gang?

       @Jaden2 It's another myth that all black kids and families are poor or uneducated.This "Black Students in Higher Education" website shows that "In 2019, 29% of the Black population aged 25 to 29 held a bachelor’s degree or higher"A Google search shows that "In 2021, 19.5 percent of Black people living in the United States were living below the poverty line."That means over 80% were above the poverty line.        @Jaden2 @tutormentor1 What we need to be looking at is wealth gaps.A family with access to inter-generational wealth, is in a much better position than a family with the same income, but no inter-generational wealth.Do your parents rent vs own their home? What type of assistance do you have access to lower your student loans? Do you have parents who can help with down-payment or mortgage payments for a home?Wealth gaps are a huge factor in disparities. That's what's growing.
