Lots of Republicans constantly claim there’s “nothing” anyone can do about gun violence. They are lying. Here’s a list of what factually could be done and work. Every option here is a perfectly legitimate example of something that’s well-regulated.To make progress on gun safety, we have to vote out Republicans. To make progress on climate, we have to vote out Republicans. To make progress on or even maintain a educational system now, we have to vote out Republicans. To make progress on reproductive rights or even maintain a basic level of them apparently, we have to vote out Republicans. Are we seeing a pattern yet?Opinion 6 solutions to gun violence that could work-https://wapo.st/3XP11wN

@TonyStark Great article. Six points summarized below:1. Ban Weapons of War2. Keep Guns Away from Kids3. Stop the Flow of Guns4. Strengthen Background Checks5. Strengthen Red Flag Laws6. Treat Guns Like We Treat CarsAll great strategies for reducing gun violence - and all combined, even better.I'd add one more, and that is to take gun laws seriously, and make it hurt if someone violates them. I'm not talking about a slap on the wrist - something more substantial. We need to make sure that if anyone breaks a gun law - even a "simple" licensing infraction - it's serious, and it's going to hurt. And a resounding YES on each of Your Points 1, 2, 3 and 4:Vote. Out. Republicans.⚡

@TonyStark I believe in the near future that the #gop will rip itself apart. There are no more moderates. They have crazy, crazier, and craziest. With the Orangeman wanting his own America First Party, it could happen before 2024.

@TonyStark It's obvious, at least to me, that something needs to be done. Here are some real suggestions for things that can help reduce the incidence of firearm death in the United States. It's a great place to start!

@PeteHall Thank you for the feedback. These things can work and have been proven to. Saying nothing can be done is never helpful and never true about any issue.

@TonyStark Following up, I've been reading a book by J Diamond, Upheaval; Turning Points for Nations in Crisis; examining the factors related to the outcomes of both nations and individuals from a historical perspective. Its a great read.Rep's have been Sleepwalking and Avoiding the issue of Gun Control for far too long with one Lame Excuse after another with Nothing Ever Getting Done. But we can do something about it.I like this from the book:"After a person acknowledges a problem, the next step is to assume responsibility for solving it. 'Yes, there are those outside forces and those other people, but they aren't me. I can't change other people. I'm the only person whose actions I can fully control. Those other people aren't going to change spontaneously if I don't do something myself.'"What can we do? Support Voting Rights; Vote Out Republicans. Get Active in Your Community. @KentNelson I love a good book recommendation. The facts are what they are on this and the common schemes of Republicans these days are to try and make people believe reality isn’t reality and to make people feel hopeless. I refuse on both counts.I post this information from time to time. Every bit of data shows the same thing.Owning a firearm makes you more likely to be killed by one, more likely a family member will be killed by one, and more likely to be a victim of suicide by firearm. https://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2022/02/03/what-the-data-says-about-gun-deaths-in-the-u-s/https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2022/apr/07/guns-handguns-safety-homicide-killing-studyhttps://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-41488081https://www.newscientist.com/article/dn17922-carrying-a-gun-increases-risk-of-getting-shot-and-killed/https://www.newscientist.com/article/2322232-which-us-laws-have-been-shown-to-cut-gun-violence-and-mass-shootings/Facts are facts.

@TonyStark Good info. From The Guardian article:"Living with a handgun owner particularly increased the risk of being shot to death in a domestic violence incident, and it did not provide any protection against being killed at home by a stranger, the researchers found."I wish more people would understand this.

@TonyStark @KentNelson I'm actually not upset; and I apologize if I am upsetting you. I just think you're trying to have your cake and eat it too with some of your arguments.I also think that crime will find a way; a pistol or a rifle might make these crimes more convenient, but removing them is not going to stop murder. Murder is a human deed, not a characteristic of a weapon.Firearms do not whisper 'murder' in the night.I do not think your heart is in the wrong place, but I do think that in your eagerness to stand up with respect to this cause, you make reason a thing of convenience.I don't mean to single you out either; this describes a lot of people.

@sparseMatrix @KentNelson More guns, more death. That’s inarguable. The US has a gun violence epidemic. Regulations on guns work. You’re essentially living with your head in a hole if cannot look around the world and see that.On top of that, many other societal problems need addressed. Healthcare, a basic income, employment, social safety nets, etc. These basic things would help reduce crime overall. But lying about the role guns play is unlikely to help us make progress.

@TonyStark @KentNelson I don't mean to say that I think everybody should be able to just rush out and buy a gun at the corner store. Actually, I'm pretty pro-more gun laws. And if we're going to have constitutional carry, it needs to be DAMNED HARD to get a handgun. But it isn't that way; and egregious attempts to 'come for the guns' (or actions that can be SPUN that way), or that READ that way don't help get things done. And honestly, you guys get yourselves worked up pretty good in some of these threads (entirely understandable, actually), and really start leaving out everything in the discussion except GUNS == EVIL

@sparseMatrix @TonyStark The hypothesis here is:Living with a handgun owner can increase one's risk of being shot in a domestic dispute;and,That having a handgun at home does not protect one from being killed by a stranger.I think the facts speak for themselves.Guns aren't Evil, but they Are Dangerous.⚡

@KentNelson @TonyStark They are dangerous by design. As for the research, I don't dispute it. But the research does not extend to every case of firearms ownership, not even close.

@TonyStark very good ..very good ,could I add one more gun owners should be required to pay public liability insurance ,,If their weapon is used in any felony there can be an immediate pay out for those impacted
