@boilingsteam i agree with all of these; there needs to be a new generation soon but also I need to get my hands on my own one somehow and also a device like that is totally suited towards older/indie games

@boilingsteam I mostly play indies but some AAA can run pretty smooth.

@boilingsteam ... It's a handheld? Ofcourse it won't, why do people expect this thing to demolish gaming PCs?

@boilingsteam I think the problem is not the hardware it is the optimization of the games that need to improve.A lot of games need an insane amount of resources for nothing.Example: Horizon Zero Dawn runs smoothly on medium to high settings with 30 FPS except you enter a new area then the frames drop by 75% for around two seconds.GTA 5 in general is an optimization disaster even though it is years old.Kena Bridge of spirits is a deck verified game but is also purely optimized

@boilingsteamI play slightly more modern AAA games all the time and don't have any complaints, though yeah, a lot of AAA games just need to delay a few more weeks and focus on optimization

@boilingsteam I would rather wish for a #SteamConsole (like Xbox or PS with Desktop Mode) than for a #SteamDeck 2

@boilingsteam maybe those demanding games should have better optimization. I've been playing Yakuza 0 and it runs perfectly.

@boilingsteam I mean, it was clearly state by Valve that we should expect to run the current steam catalog at 30 fps minimum at the time of the release.Considering that AAA studios are starting to drop support for older gen console, there is no real surprise here. Also the day the #steamdeck2 release is the dev the existing SD owner become second class citizen both from Valve and the game developers. Also, there are other handhelds that are pushing more power at a higher TDP out there.

@boilingsteam Hmm no, apologies. It turned out it wasn't an official announcement. Just a comment they made that they "might" not change their hardware config in a hypothetical steam deck 2: https://www.theverge.com/23499215/valve-steam-deck-interview-late-2022

@ji3o @soulsource it may on its way... But at the same time there is a lot more competition in the console space, more than in the handheld one.

@soulsource @boilingsteam basically yes, as a preconfigured PC (maybe styled like a barebone) with Bluetooth Controller.

@boilingsteam @ji3o @soulsource > There is a lot more competition in the console space, more than in the handheld one.I agree, it will make more sense to release SteamOS for regular PCs with specific supported configurations and let 3rd parties build those supported boxes while Valve provides the gaming OS. I think this is ultimately valve's intention, that someone else makes the hardware even if they keep building more specialised niche stuff like the Deck. There is not only a lot of competition in the console market, the mini-PC market is full of offers and once RDNA3 reach full availability we can get our hands on very nice small form-factor gaming PCs for which lightweight SteamOS is perfect.
