If there is only one stay at home person, the vast majority of the time it’s just one parent with the kids. You HAVE to neglect your 2yo child’s cries for you to pick them up when you are the only one home and need to cook food for them and yourself. That’s obviously not a good thing for their development for you to neglect their cries for your attention like that, and no one likes doing it, but there is no other option with just one person at home. It’s also a *relatively minor* reason why people feed their kids goyslop instead of making actual food.Actual food takes along time in comparison to 4 minutes in a microwave.RT: https://poa.st/objects/8f579cb5-372e-475c-bcf7-c73d39d6cb02

Try and maintain a stoic composure when you’re cooking food for 20 minutes and the entire time you have at least one kid demanding your attention in some way, either directly underfoot, or off doing something that leads to crashing sounds in the other room. Now do it every day for years.I’m not the stay at home parent; I know I can’t do that every day.

@anime_outdoor Can I just say you are so right and the only time I feel like I can truly be my best as a mother and enjoy every second is when my in laws are visiting for dinner. My husbands mother will hold the baby while we all make dinner together, she will fold laundry with me and laugh and joke and those are the only times parenting doesn't feel overwhelming. I wish they lived with us

@anime_outdoor I really think people on our side underestimate how lonely the days are for mothers when the husband is at work. I spend the day just repeatedly checking the clock waiting for him to finally be home

@anime_outdoor I think the neglect thing has bled over into GenX and millenial parents. You aren't teaching an infant "independence" by neglecting their cries, you're teaching them that they don't matter and this will translate to them not taking care of themselves later in life.

@anime_outdoor I remember someone on Rand's show saying that the nuclear family was an innovation from the multi-generational family. Sure we were able to spread our kind further but at a horrible cost; we don't have a strong connection to our related families (Uncles, Aunts, Nieces, Cousins), and our grandparents are at greater risk. The nuclear family was an innovation in a bad way.

@rudrajade @anime_outdoor might’ve been a better idea in a better world where you aren’t moving 500-1000 miles away from your family but 5 miles away instead.. ?

@lichelordgodfrey @anime_outdoor Funny, when I was younger (birth to ~7 years), it was like that for my parents and grandparents, the visits were frequent and we were able to keep in touch. Not so much for my other family. But when we had to move into a new town we had to go farther away from them, close to 50 miles.

@anime_outdoor While I agree that being around more family is positive, cooking and cleaning are not hard to do throughout an entire day. I'm able to do both as a single person household with a fulltime job and the only difference more people would make is using larger pots and pans in the process of making homecooked meals with less than an hour of preparation. People ignore their kid because they don't care about the kid as much as watching TV or staring at their phone, they're not making a Christmas ham with a dozen sides on a Wednesday.
