We've defederated from takesama.com. They're a private social network who state in their whitepaper that their goal is to bypass defederation and nonconsensually index user content.#SignsAndCodes #fediblock

@epilanthanomai this is a federation followbot. this is commonplace, they just decided to be really corporate and "whitepaper"-y about it. rdrama.cc has one. due to the nature of the fediverse, if you follow someone, the instance federates posts much better, otherwise you aren't really "subscribed" to the account if that makes sense, and only federates posts it are boosted or interacted with by other people, or posts that are force-federated. this does not get around defederation, it just makes your instance federate better with takesama.com if you accept its follow request.

@meso You mean their whitepaper? It's the profile page for their bot, \@takesama_bot@takesama.comhttps://takesama.com/whitepapers/takesama_bot

@epilanthanomai basically if one account on an instance follows a remote, the instance can federate the remote account's posts well, whereas if no accounts are following it it's unreliable. not sure if I'm entirely correct about that but that's how I explain it to myself

@meso I'm not sure what led you to the conclusion that I need a lecture about how followbots work, but it was unnecessary and unwelcome. I'm quite aware.

@epilanthanomai didn't know, your original post was talking about takesama.com like it's trying to circumvent defederation and trying to be malicious whereas it's just a followbot

For anyone else who has strong opinions on followbots, the creator of this one opened an activitypub issue report to request an easier way to hide them without notifying you that they're following you. It's open for comments and reactions.https://github.com/w3c/activitypub/issues/361
