I use #FuckCars because I really don't like cars, I do not own or use a car (yes I got my licence for about 11 years now but kinda got forced on me) and I use a bike and public transport :ed_grin: Ofc not everyone can do this and that's okay but I'm speaking from my perpective 🚲 :RideBikes:

@stux Fair enough! If I got my bike fixed and if the trains were more efficient here, I would probably use them more. I do like to walk too.

@stux #FuckCars definitely. unfortunately far too much of especially the US's city design alternative unfriendlymy company just downsized thier office, they dont need that much space anymore having gone full hybrid post-covid. old office was about a 20 minute walk from a train stop. new office has no public transit anywhere close and we're one of the better public transit cities in the US

@stux I grew up in Los Angeles County (all around in the county) and it was drive or never go anywhere. Now I live in a suburb in "greater Boston" (LOL) Massachusetts and it's similar, but of course does have the unbelievable sprawl that L.A. has. I'd love to bike more for errands, but MA drivers and extreme lack of safety make it a frustrating idea. So bummed.

@stux We've build our lives around the car without ever asking why and if it's even a good idea. Im puzzled about people who defend that or defend cars... Stuck in a car there is nothing to defend about.

@stux I own a car, but unless I do a road trip, I walk more miles than I drive. I've never had a long commute and I've usually walked, run, biked, or taken transit.

@stux The sad thing is that not having decent public transportation or bike infrastructure is treated like an external factor when it’s also a choice. Not having walkable cities is a choice that makes us all poorer in quality of life and financially by subsidizing urban sprawl.

@stux Works when you live in a city, but a friend of mine in Ulrum Groningen (very rural area) really needs a car: cause there's no shops in Ulrum and public transport next to non existant... 😉But cities should be car free IMHO 😁 #totallyagree

@stux I even enjoy driving by car, but I'm still glad I don't need one (and therefor don't need to own one) any longer.Mostly use public transport and walking and #CarSharing or #CarRental in urgent cases as the biking infrastructure is non-existent at my current home.Most German cities are too centered on #FuckCars but I remain hopeful.

@calculsoberic There's no metro trains here. It would take me 3 hours to walk to the nearest bus stops which stop around there once every 30 minutes (1 hour for two buses traveling a loop in opposite directions), but with the road I'd have to walk/bike along, it'd be almost lethal to do so. 55 mph (90 km/h) for most of it with no shoulders for a good bit of it@stux

@trebach Exactly! I have nothing against bikes/walking, it's just that some cities are not ideally designed to use them all the time. They have been working on a project to make the city more bikeable at least, but it's a long-term project. @stux

@stux would never give up my heater, cooled, all-around fun vehicles in a suburban environment but I could imagine doing so in a city. Never would live in a city though.
