i tried on a new walkie #podcast, #WhatsLeftOfPhilosophy. and i knew they were marxist, but damn, i didn't expect them to be that openly authoritarian. and it's just a bit of a mindfuck to dive into their upside-down world.https://www.patreon.com/posts/77298200like not only is the USA "too liberal", but also "too weak" of a state. the superpower that could kill, like, 90% of it's 336M subjects in nuclear fire within a few days is "not strong enough".

their reasoning is that a "stronger" state could do more of the (state) socialists measures that would help with the "lack of order", whereas the the current "weak" state can "only" do excessive police violence and imprisonment. another "solution" they suggest is to have even more cops because of the USA's low cop/prisoner rate…the preferred "strong" states are european, with little differentiation.

which also brings me to a bit of a pet theory that i wanted test a little more: namely that lesser wealth inequality in nordic countries is precisely due to their weaker (less capable of violence) states. that their states are somewhat civilized/domesticated by society less tolerant to violence.

currently in their Max Weber episode, and here is something else grinds my frickin gears: the marxist pretense of having some sort explanatory model of history, when all they do is attribute basically anything to anthropomorphized capital.liberalism: capital did it.fascism: capital saving itself.socialism we don't like: also capital saving itself.actual communism: logical conclusion of capitalism, duh.that's not how causal claims work 😾…#marxism

@sofia how much stronger than 'literally the most powerful state ever' can one get?

@lain they still aren't strong enough to have a 50·$/h minimum wage and simultaneously not having mass unemployment, maybe with more cops they could force everyone to have a high playing job 🧐.

@sofia i've stopped listening to philosophy podcasts, if they are not explicitly anarchist they pretty much always have the totalitarian mindset, imagining themselves as the wise technocrats saving humanity from itself.

@lain i still like Philosophize This, which i don't think has a totalitarian or technocratic bent. it may be a little light on antistatism. the Hayek and Nozick episodes come to mind, and i think the only anarchist that got an episode is Throeau?also sometimes technocrats are driven by good ideas, it's just that the for them 'normal' ways to put ideas into practice are terrible…

@sofia I would kindly ask you not to paint us all with the same brush!Marxists can defend the necessity the dictatorship of the proletariat, but this is only a use of force for holding down the old oppressing classes as we destroy property and wage labor.Any marxist worth the name can find no justification for recreating what Marx called the "the whole sham of state-mysteries and state pretensions." As Bordiga said, "we don't want to free the State, we want to put it in chains, and then strangle it"!Infinitely less is there any justification for the Stalinist states that just defended a new kind of capital accumulation.

@schalken i try to give marxists the benefit of the doubt, that's also why i said i didn't expect said podcasters to be that authoritarian.that being said, i don't find what you said very reassuring. like that the first thing you say about state violence is giving potential uses. what does destroying property and wage labour entail? what are you willing to do to people to make them not engage in these things? what would go too far?

@schalken i do understand the appeal to move beyond wage labour, and i think property would look a lot different if law was made by consent instead of force. but a consensual order means that people can organize in ways i don't like, and it's up to me and like-minded people to prove the value of our ideas.i don't know what sort of sham-mysteries and pretensions Marx referred to, but the big sham i see is that the state is there to serve people, rather than being a powerseeking parasite.
