> I feel like there are now three constant processes in our world:> 1) #Carcinisation - everything evolves to become a crab> 2) #Financialization - eventually all business eventually turn into finance firms.> 3) #Enshitification - all producers eventually strip-mine their reputations.-srboisvert on #Metafilter https://www.metafilter.com/198011/Enshittification#8352515

@pluralistic Logically, the entire world will ultimately be owned by terrible private equity firms that are also enormous crabs.It's not QUITE the dystopian future I imagined -- I hadn't got to the crab bit yet -- but there's no arguing with the science. This is how it will be.

@angusm @pluralistic so in the physical world, fungi prevent the literal enshittification of everything. Where are the fungi of techno-finance?

@angusm @TrismegistusMx @pluralistic Nice! Reminds me of the Government Flying Building from Moebius's L'Incal comic book, which very much foresaw this kind of social endgame...

@Godefroy_B @angusm @TrismegistusMx @pluralistic - This was presaged by Swift's Laputa, a flying country ... well worth reading.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laputa

@karlauerbach @Godefroy_B @angusm @pluralistic Which in turn reminds me of Cities in Flight (1950-1962).The series features entire cities that are able to fly through space using an anti-gravity device, the spindizzy. The stories cover roughly two thousand years, from the very near future to the end of the universe.One fun feature is that the spindizzy relies on vacuum tubes.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cities_in_Flight
