COMPROMISED? This hirsute young politico is Olaf Scholz. In the 80’s, Scholz was a self-identified Marxist. The DDR (East Germany) then regarded him as an “important ally in the struggle against NATO”

@shaman Not sure what his ideals are, human dignity is not one of them. As Interior minister of hamburg he started a program to force believed drug dealers to take emetics making sure they vomit over and over again in hopes to find drugs hidden in their stomachs. Later the European Court ruled this to be illegal and be considered torture!

@shaman I'm not a huge fan of him but that seems like a bit of a stretch IMHO. I can think of no marxist policy he has pursued in the last 20 years and he has mobilized considerable support for Ukraine. I understand the frustration with his position on tanks, I am unhappy with it too and I get that Ukrainians are dying because of his reluctance to deliver tanks. But he acts on what's democratic consensus in Germany and changing this consensus is more helpful than spreading unfounded allegations.

@shaman Sadly, he just went the usual way from a leftist Juso ( Young socialists, the young branch of SPD) to a senior conservatist politician. They all did, Gerd Schroeder too. They become so smooth, they could all pass for Merkel 2.0.

@shaman Political and economic system of Russia? Perhaps extremist, statist, authoritarian, and imperialist, whatever else. In a word, fascist. The present regime seems as far away from social democratic as it could get. This article says it is "capitalist." What is it?https://canadiandimension.com/articles/view/the-ukraine-conflict-as-a-world-war:mastodon:

@shaman See Peter's question of yesterday. Also we would like to know the source because we're planning an article on Scholz.

@shaman Are you insinuating he's compromised as a purported member of NATO? Because none of his actions as minister support that. Expressly the contrary.

@shaman It's impossible to be a "self-identified Marxist." They're dialectical materialists. That includes a principle of non-identity. Also, the USSR wasn't Marxist-Leninist after Stalin died. Hence, the Sino-Soviet split. It ended with Gorbachev who was more Trot than ML/communist. Odds on this guy was a Trot. He'll get a good service to capitalism medal for that.
