Do you ever get sharp chest pains in the middle of the night? I've had them since I was a teenager and I'm 800% sure they aren't heart related. They feel like a muscle pull but they go away within a few hours and I don't know how that could happen anyway.

@meso @Inginsub I absolutely fucking hate that both google and medial sites intentionally bury benign likely explanations in favor of rare deadly ones. Charitably speaking the point would be to get somebody to a hospital if it is an emergency but 90% of the time they're encouraging people to go to the emergency room and pay $10,000 over literally nothing (gee I wonder what the real motivation is)

@RustyCrab @Inginsub I'll sometimes get sharp pains in my intercostal muscles (muscles between the ribs) if I move funny, and I have to kinda stretch a certain way to get it to stop hurting. and it's *quite* a sharp pain, like "got stabbed a week ago" level pain, so it hurts to breathe until I release it

@deprecated_ii @RustyCrab @Inginsub Okay, I knew a guy who eventually need his gallbladder removed, he explained it as sharp shooting pains like he got stabbed in the abdomen. For muscle pain, do hollow bodies. If you strengthen it with isometric exercise, it might help relieve it long term. You just need to do the exercise long term instead.

@RustyCrab @meso @Inginsub so one of the things I learned when I was researching the possibility of a detached retina (which I do not have, btw) is they treat retinal tears -- where the retina is just being tugged by the contracting vitreous humor, but is mostly still attached -- so aggressively that they don't actually know what the risk is of a minor tear progressing into a detachmentcould be that 99% of the time the tear doesn't progress and heals itself, but who knows? they just fix it before it can become a problem, to the tune of a $5000 eye surgeryon the one hand you can see why they don't want to take the risk, because if it *does* progress into a retinal detachment the potential for losing vision in the eye permanently even with surgery is way higher. but OTOH, half the population doesn't have vision insurance anymore and most of them won't have $5000 to dump on the preventive surgery going forwarda few generations of major wealth sloshing around everywhere likely set back medical risk assessments significantly because they could afford to be so proactive in fixing things before they became problems, and now they really just don't know what the real risk is in not treating things

@deprecated_ii @Inginsub @meso not to turn this into a hell thread, but the day America gets "free healthcare" is the day I'm taking the next flight out of here. You're going to be paying 800 per month for insurance and higher copays AND doubled taxes compared to now. Every time the government has ever tried to do anything about this they've made it intentionally worse.

@RustyCrab @meso @Inginsub I don't really expect actual health care to be available to most people in America in the future, either way. maybe trauma surgery if you stagger into the ER with a bullet wound but not much more than thatthe medical profession has essentially murdered itself

@RustyCrab @SpaceElf I had a muscle spasm in one of my pectorals that was spasming like crazy but not painfully. I put my hand over my heart and I thought my pulse was like 150. But checking it was normal then I realized it was a muscle thing. So its possible.
