@Floydian_Psychology What really gets me is that Bob , a Korean & Vietnam war veteran , seemed like he was a genuinely good father , despite Chris being....well Chris . Psych facilities are now mostly for-profit, getting their money from either patient insurance or the state or county for every bed filled, meaning they're incentivized to keep the place full, but they're full of homeless that say the magic words in order to get free food and a bed while actual people in crisis are forced to wait in barren intake rooms or take up general hospital ER beds until they can be found a place.Malingerers exploit the system to staggering degrees; one "frequent flyer" we had once -barely- crossed the state line from a neighboring state, and then called 911 and did his spiel, knowing that an ambulance would have to pick him up and give him a ride over 350 miles to our facility on the taxpayer's dime and EMTs' sweat. He used an AMBULANCE as a fucking taxicab.The staff are the cheapest that money can buy, about 9/10 coming from the Philippines, Central/South America, or Africa, all with diploma-mill educations and little interest in the welfare of patients beyond keeping themselves from being fired. In the place I worked, one unit nurse was sitting in a chair, on her phone, when she was supposed to be doing 5-minute welfare checks on the patients in her wing, one stopped breathing, and wasn't discovered until that nurse switched out with another. The patient died after a horrendously retarded attempt at CPR, where they were giving him chest compressions while he was still on the bed and half of the stuff on the crash cart was missing.
