In case you missed it:Wikipedia took 10 years to develop a new skin. It's entirely mobile-focused but rolled out to desktop only. The whitespace on a 1080p monitor is larger than the content space, there's a little tiny button on the bottom right that "fixes" it by removing -all- the whitespace, and unless you log on to a wikimedia account you cannot save preferences or change the skin. Supposedly the reason you can't is because each page isn't actively created, but rather cached in one of two skins, the mobile or the new mobile-desktop skins, and only users get actively-rendered and updated pages.Apparently the skin has been in development for 10 years and was approved for wide use back in October, but in areas so hidden that even users didn't know it was going to happen until two days ago whereupon wikiautists kept saying "well you should have noticed the announcements and said something if you hate it so much."There's tons of places in wikipedia where people are overwhelmingly complaining about the change and the consensus of the entire wikimedia developer group is "it's already here, fuck you, deal with it."

@Duine I hate wikipedia. Them and Google have basically strangled the life out of the noncommercial world wide web.

@caekislove @Duine Yeah. The best feeling is when you stumble upon "Bob's Space Page", a personal website filled with tons of interesting and hard to find information on a specific topic.

@Elliptica @Duine Exactly. Then some "wikipedian" plagiarizes the entirety of that page for the first draft of a wikipedia article and anytime someone points that out, the wekipedos counter that it's not real plagiarism because the page later laundered through 9743865287 "grammar edits".

@gray The solution isn't really a solution either.<I don't like this new change and whitespace>Go to user preferences and change it<I don't have a user account and don't want one>Too fucking bad, eat shit and die

@Duine https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/458494-old-wikipedia-layout this works for now but give it time, these horrible UI updates no one wants or asked for usually get made mandatory and the old layout deleted to force people to use the new awful layout

@RyokoPilled Supposedly they're keeping the old skin in perpetuity but that's about as likely as extensions keeping up with browsers in perpetuity. An amusing thing I forgot to mention as well is that they've added thumbnail image previews to the little active search dropdown in the search box. This means if you're busy typing in "peninsula" you'll get a big fat penis picture from the "penis" article in the dropdown.

@Duine I don't know much about web design but hasn't dynamic content resizing been a thing since the early 2000s?

@gray Oh, there is in the new skin already. But its only purpose is to expand or contract the sidebar, and to expand the entire center content to use the entire width of the window with no whitespace. It's also completely forgotten between pages and reloads.
