There's this advertising on TV for a webhoster (won't say the name) that offers hosting for €1 per month but what they don't tell is that is soooo slow, it takes about a minute per page to load :nkoFacepalm: My niece tried it and I had to build the site on it, I kindly refused to work on that haha! Remember people, also with hosting it goes, don't expect too much for 1 euro per month :blobcatgiggle: I pay a few K per month now, but that's a different story I guess :lego_laugh:

@stux Yeah, I think fair prices are needed for you to have a great time working and using your website / web-app, and for the hoster to get enough money.I myself pay 9,95 €per month for 10 Domains inclusive, 250 Gigs of storage, 500 Subdomains, 2000 individual E-mail addresses. 50 MariaDB DBs, 50 Webcrons. 50 DDNS, SSH, Lets Encrypt Certs and more! - Also the speeds are pretty decent... :blobhappy:

@stux I bought a web hosting package during a Black Friday sale last year with another Dutch hosting company, expecting to be able to build something in Python, turns out they only support PHP. So my advice, do your research before buying. I forgot to do that due to a perceived time pressure.

@stux@mstdn.social I pay ~200 - but yeah. Cheap comes with cost. Not a lot of features (eg php, db), speed of connection / hard drive / processor, size of ram, or even horrible costs for traffic over the limit

@madjo@mstdn.social @stux@mstdn.social most "normal" web hosting pages don't support self running apps (aka python, ruby, perl, go, rust,...). Php is only allowed because the holster can artificially control and limit what you can do, plus it's not an extra long running task - it all gets executed by either fpm or apache. You basically need anything with shell / shh access. If you want something cheap and simple I would recommend https://uberspace.de/en/

@stux I think there's free hosts that offer better deals, depending on what you need done!
