hey friends, monthly jimmy wales postpoast exists because you guys pay for it. for the last two years ive covered the slack to the tune of about 57,800$ just for 2022.i've bought all Poast hardware, so that isn't a cost for us to pass on to users but Poast pays for its rack, its upstreams etc. in 2022 I paid a little more than 129,800$ (rounded to about 130k) in buying hardware, racking and moving so Poast was fully self sufficient. i paid most of this out of pocket but I am not going to pay the yearly rack fees or peering costs out of pocket wholly by myself. we run merch and etc but that only covers half normally. we could run monthly merch runs instead of running them often. what else? im at my wits end. how do we make poast solvent friends?

@graf Say what you will about turbo, the subscription model isn't a bad idea. Standard Gab accounts lack certain functionalities we have here at poast, like scheduled posting. You may just have to put certain functionalities behind a paywall. I'll toss a few shekels come tad season. First Quarter is tight for me.

It's BSD goodness and POSIX compliant. but with better battery life. They really fucked the GUI with latest release but its like FreeBSD but everything works if you stick to the terminal.

@graf I'm not sure I can suggest anything you haven't already thought about.I signed up to donate monthly because this place is better entertainment than anything else. It's full of helpful people with diverse careers that I can laugh with or ask questions if I'm in over my head on something, without having to watch what I say around them. Or just poast niggaduck if I feel like it.Even you, the big important admin dude, I see you spending lots of your own unpaid time trying to help people out with technical issues unrelated to poast. I think that reveals a lot of positive things about the kind of person you are.I was thinking about how bad I would feel if somewhere special like this disappeared because I neglected to contribute in some way. Sending some money your way was a pretty easy decision to make.

@graf I would try monetizing poa.st tv more, it sounds entitled and dumb to propose this without a specific plan and like zero expertise in doing so but creating some equivalent of superchats and subscriptions etc. and taking a reasonable cut like 5-10 percent, or perhaps requiring streamers to pay a subscription of like 10 bucks a month etc. would drive a lot of traffic to the site and be effective monetization IMO.

Push your anonymous fiat donation methods the hardest. $5 a month isn't going to kill anyone. Set it up once and let it roll.Merch for ppl like me is a red flag. Cool for some but I've literally seen it used maliciously so I avoid it.You could do quirky things like paid for text or text color changes. Or frames on your pfp. Purchasable changes...digital bling. Make simple ones..colors textures for reasonable prices....then one cool one that cost a way more than reasonable...egos love to be stroked.

@charliebrownau @charliebrownau it's much higher for us than for any other not only only because we have a lot of egress traffic (100s of TB/monthly) but we have to pay for our hardware and network shit. renting a rack is the most expensive cost for us. if I can find somewhere that will colo us with the 4x10gbit we have now or higher. most places charge 1000$/mo or more just for unmetered 10gbitI have been shopping around tho. would like to cut it down to 1200-1500/mo. next month it will be about 1920
