Prior to the real release of what became Mac OS X, Apple released "Rhapsody Developer Release 2", a Mac/PPC and PC/x86 version of OPENSTEP that had been enhanced with a UI inspired by the Mac OS 9 "Platinum" appearance, which I think fits very well. A pity this didn't see development as an alternative to the UI they ended up releasing, called Aqua.

@mos_8502 I was really irritated by the pivot to Aqua. I wanted the Platinum interface.

@Cloudscout I’ve got a pile of GTK+ pixmap themes designed to emulate the Platinum UI and a working knowledge of Objective-C, so I’m looking into what I’d need to do to make GNUStep look more like Rhapsody.

@mos_8502 Speaking of GNUStep, I'm still hoping someone will backport its Terminal app to OpenStep so I can have a proper ANSI color terminal on my NeXTstation.
