Low key considering grabbing a secondhand OnePlus 6T for testing GNOME/GTK/Flatpak apps on a phone…

I did it, and HOLY CRAP THIS PHONE IS HUGE. Other hands-on observations:• the vibration motor is garbage holy crap• apparently I have to wait an arbitrary amount of time (allegedly a week) for OnePlus or T-Mobile to send me an unlock code even through it is fully carrier unlocked??• I actually really like the OnePlus launcher on this phone, if only because of the tasteful customization and ability to have all apps on the home screen• For a “clean” OEM ROM, there is still a lot of cruft

@cassidy Xiaomi, Sony and others also do the code thing. And yeah, big phones are the norm now, not much that can be done about it…

@xerz @cassidy Did Sony stop their compact models? Because after getting used to a feature phone, I'd rather stay on reasonably sized ones.

@lanodan @xerz yeah, as far as I have seen. And even widely-praised “compact” phones have far bigger screens that are harder to reach than many standard models from not that long ago.

@cassidy @xerz Reachability is mostly an Android-interface problem though (that I wish wasn't copied in phosh and KDE mobile).SailfishOS on my OnePlus One was fine, you typically keep your thumb in the middle because there is no bottom bar.

@cassidy @lanodan they kept it Japan-only with the Xperia Ace lineup. As Apple has shown, it seems there's just not enough interest for companies of any scale to find it worth it…
