I am now looking at the NetSurf codebase, because it's written in portable C, and thus is valid Objective-C already, which means tying it into GNUStep should be fairly easy.

@eukara Phenomenal. I will examine this closely.

If nothing else, making it use GNUStep's menus and dock and panels would be nice.

@eukara I really think a distro that focused on GNUStep would be nice.

It's only HTML4, but it's *something*, and it might make good practice for taking non-GNUStep C/C++ applications and integrating them; I believe Chromium is C++, is it not? Objective-C++ is very much a thing.

@eukara Like, one that exists specifically to showcase the best GNUStep has to offer, and which switches easily from a traditional OPENSTEP UI style to a more modern Mac-like UI.

@mos_8502 @eukara iirc there was a distro, Etoile or something, that I think aimed to do just that.

@slaine @eukara The significant parts of Etoile are now part of GNUStep. There isn’t any actual distro that I know of.

@mos_8502 @slaine Etoile had its own userspace, which included a music player, dictionary and more!It was totally supposed to be a desktop environment on top of GNUstep. And to show how small the world is, fellow Quake coder ericw worked on Etoile! (He maintains the modern level compilers and more)
