I've been asked to shoot a wedding. This is excellent news, it gives me a justification to get a second camera body. No point getting the same model. May as well get the latest model. Well, that's my logic, anyway.#photo #photography #wedding

@fitheach Sorry, off-topic, but when I hear 'shoot a wedding', I have to think of this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F4qGB7Uw3RU

@fitheach I've found myself tempted to get a new camera to shoot film. I don't shoot film now. I can't imagine me ever shooting film. But I still want the camera. Cameras, man...

It's been ages since I've photographed a wedding. Lockdown certainly got in the way for a while.

Decision made. The Oympus OM-D EM-1 Mark III is the updated version of my current camera. It gives me some added features, without sacrificing any compatibility with existing lenses and accessories. It should also mean that I'll be immediately productive, as the controls and interface will be largely the same.https://www.olympus.co.uk/site/en/c/cameras/om_d_system_cameras/om_d/e_m1_mark_iii/index.html#photo #photograpĥy

I did seriously consider getting one of the Panasonic Lumix GH models. They have an excellent reputation for video work, while still using the m4/3rds mount. Although I mostly do stills work, having a good video option is still useful. I will be doing video at the wedding, for example.Additional image stabilisation when using Olympus lenses, and flash compatibility swung it for the OM-D. Also, the high-resolution 50MP mode was tempting.

Of course, now that the decision is made, OM System will probably launch a new model.#SodsLaw

@fitheach We split the difference in this household. We don't have top-end cameras, but I like my Lumixes (Lumices?) while herself has Olympuses (Olympiae?)Both pluralised, as we both have point-and-shoots to complement our Big Cameras.4/3rds really is a lovely system. At the beginning,, it almost bet on electronics improving, and really seems to have won the bet

@withaveeay I agree. Both Olympus (and now OM System) and Panasonic make excellent camera equipment. Either of the cameras I looked at would have been great choices.TBF any of the Olympus cameras (EM-5 or EM-10) would have been just as capable. Although, the 50MP feature on the OM-1 is very tempting. That said, the major difference is with the lenses. The Pro lenses really make a world of difference.

@gemlog There will be some explanation whereby I have to pay for them. I'll see. Proper Olympus batteries, too. Not cheap.
