@cel @dysfun 1) Saves 30% of hits to our server for web app assets2) Efficiently serving media (of which we have 90GB+)3) Excellent DNS service (with fast propagation), allows load-balancing and failover.Do *we* need it for our 24 user instance? No, we could probably run on a Raspberry Pi. However, I like to build things for maintainability so I did the setup like I would for 100k users (and then scaled the actual VMs down massively).

@cel @dysfun Also, our datacentre is in the US (a decision I may live to regret!) but most of our requests are from the UK. Serving assets from the edge is a nice performance boost.

@Moon @chjara @cel @dysfun Yeah, everyone has to make their own trade-offs.We made the decision that we wanted to control the hosting infrastructure (and to run on commodity services we could move). However, we decided we’re okay with offloading media and putting our servers behind a CDN 🤷♂️

@dysfun I think it will flop. The entire server uses CloudFlare workers, all the base files are stored on a GitHub repo that you fork from the main one. The biggest issue is it depends on zero trust for authencation which makes it harder to get into for new years

@skymtf @dysfun Funnily, one Korean queer instance (and quite a big one) uses Cloudflare for "security." Quite funny when you consider that CF is altright paradise. Also this is the only instance which is in 5 biggest (in user count) Korean instance that use CF.
