@solarkraft it hardly depends on the definition... i once talked with someone which called git a blockchain :blobcatgoogly:

@Gamercat @JainSame and it makes sense if you totally reduce the definition ad absurdum. Too bad it doesn't solve the reconciliation problem, which is the whole point of "blockchain".

@solarkraft @Gamercat I would say a blockchain consists of a decentralised network with a consensus algorithm and an incentive to execute that

@Gamercat @Jain Funnily enough IBM defines a blockchain as "a shared, immutable ledger for recording transactions, tracking assets and building trust" (https://www.ibm.com/topics/what-is-blockchain) which would allow such a classification (if you ignore what "building trust" was supposed to mean, which I think blockchain grifters are happy to).

@solarkraft @Gamercat yes but IBM does also own a platform called hyperledger fabric which is basically a over engineered distributed database... they have multiple abstractions to make their system look like a blockchain, but in the end, there is a centralised component that authorises new blocks and thus calls the whole abstraction into question... no wonder they trying to market it that way

@solarkraft @Gamercat they even developed a centralised tool to be able to easily their platform to a webapplication :blobcatfacepalm2: thats how i imagine the advantage of a blockchain :blobcatgoogly: having a webapplication which talks to a Rest-API and not beeing able to get the raw blockchain... This is the marketing department's dream, calling a webapplication with a Rest-API that it has a blockchain without beeing able to verify that
