@kairyssdal I don't understand money, apologies in advance.I thought the government had a cash crisis when it hit the debt limit. So departments or offices or other activities might be shut until Congress turned on the tap again.

@kairyssdal The latter inexorably leads to the former though, or at least brinksmanship thereupon.Congress sets the debt limit and Congress also determines the budget. If the budget exceeds the debt limit, Congress has trapped itself for no reason other than political posturing. We need to eliminate this stupid broken nonsense. If Congress passes a budget, it must carry the implicit approval of taking on debt to cover the deficit, otherwise it's a legal paradox.

@kairyssdal but it's also true that as the debt limit approaches there will almost certainly be a partial shutdown to prolong the date.
