We're in a weird in-between time where the US may suddenly become one of the best places to live in the whole world.

@satchlj @cjd I think it boils down to capital allocation, if you believe the federal government does a better job at allocating capital than income earners, then this would be a net-negative outcomeif you believe that income earners are able to allocate capital better than the federal government, then it would be net positiveI think that's the simplest way I can split this for ya

Think about it this way: You earn a dollar, 20% goes to the feds. You go to the store and spend it, 20% goes to the feds. They go out to a restaurant, 20% goes to the feds, the restaurateur buys a new stove, 20% goes to the feds. It's not just 20%, it's 99%, and it runs the entire country into poverty and desperation - except for the political class who ride around in their private jets, spending lavishly on themselves and their soul-crushing zombie corporations.BTW high income earners don't care either way because they're in Puerto Rico.

After a dollar has passed through the hands of 21 people, even at 20% income tax, 99% of that dollar has been siphoned off to fight in foreign wars and prop up "too big to fail" businesses. That's why everybody is poor!

I could not come up with a better explanation, and it should make sense to anyone. Maybe "People spending their own money vs. people spending other people's money"

@FourOh-LLC @cjd @harblinger democracy is a redistribution of power founded on the understanding that anarchy is unjust and results in tyranny money is a form of power therefore, the recognition that some form of wealth redistribution is necessary follows from a belief in democracy

@cjd exactly. They won't attach it to the budget because they don't want it to become law. They'll posture on it to drum up support and then it will fail and then they'll blame opposition.Read this: if it isn't in an omnibus bill they don't want it passed. If a law isn't in the personal interest of a congressman they won't pass it. They negotiate these things before they ever grandstand on them. The institutions are weaker than they'd have you believe. These are the death throes of the US government. It will occur suddenly like the USSR. It is coming faster than you think. Have guns and have bitcoin. You need to be able to kill people or buy them or you have no power, not even over your own life.

@cjd @harblinger I am skeptical of the validity of this argument.in the fiat system, the government takes away money but also creates it by spending as long as government spending is distributed fairly (which, of course it is currently not) then taxation doesn’t necessarily make people poorer

> as long as government spending is distributed fairly (which, of course it is currently not)There is only one thing upon which a politician can spend the treasure he collects, and that is Buying Loyalty. This is not a conspiracy theory, it is a game theoretical law, and any politician or leader who doesn't understand or refuses to abide by it will soon be replaced by one who does. The idea of spending being "distributed fairly" it even itself flawed, because it implies that as long as the money is given equally to everyone, it's will not make them poorer. It matters not to whom it's given, but for what.Imagine if all taxes went to giving everyone an equal cash payment for spreading propaganda and spying on their neighbors, would this make everyone poorer? YES! Because propaganda and snooping is not productive activity, it does not make anyone's life actually better, and people doing this aren't doing things that will. The rise of taxation and debasement of the money is the collapse of nations. Farmers and carpenters become impoverished while propaganda artists and spreadsheet mechanics thrive, slowly it becomes a nation of middle managers working Bullshit Jobs for Zombie Corporations. As was Rome 1500 years ago is the west today.
