Huh..Ran across old my EEE 900 netbook while cleaning the basement today. To my surprise, it fired right up. Event viewer says last time I really used it was June of 2012. Looks like the battery is shot, but that's to be expected. It actually seems..fairly fast.I did not expect this. It's currently got XP on it. I might have to see what the modern options are (if any).#retrocomputing #eee_pc

The EEE does a pretty good job of running the Intellivision emulator of it's era (Nostalgia). Seen here running Ice Trek.

@paradroyd nice! I have an old OLPC XO-1, of course with dead battery sadly. also one of the RAM sticks has a bad [sector?] so whatever software I run on it crashes frequently. tho IIRC some OSes allow you a way to indicate bad “blocks” in memory and not use them? maybe? heh, anyway, those Eee netbooks always seemed pretty handy at the time!

@paradroyd Throw debian on there with a gui of your choice.I have an ASUS from 2014ish that still goes strong. Doesn't deal well with anything too memory intensive (4gb). But works great for streaming, chats, etc.

@amatecha As far as I can tell, this one s fine, other than the battery. The internal SSD in these things has a hard 4GB boot partition limit, then 16GB more set up as a second partition. Even fitting XP in that 4GB was tight.Linux would probably handle this setup a lot better, but there aren't a lot of 32 bit modern distros, I think. I'm sure that there are some though. I'll definitely look into it.

@verb My first step was going to be booting Knoppix 7.x (or so) from USB and see how it worked.I dunno..I'll look into it tomorrow if I get some time.

@paradroyd I dunno about eee900 but void linux musl runs well on my Acer Aspire One netbook with a busted screen. 4 x USB and 2 x SD slots and it''s my music server and turns off when I tell it, not like my raspberry pi's which need me to get out of my control centre/bed and cut the power.
