They fell behind because of pure corporate greed, where they're happy to sell the same recycled shit as innovative.NEC probably being the #1 worst offender that's fresh in my mind. Their downfall was hard because essentially they engineered PCs with a serious design flaw or rather two: you couldn't upgrade the GPU and the fastest bus for years was essentially a clone of ISA. So you had to chain two GPUs together to get a better video card. They also sued a company cloning their computers as well. Or how about the disaster of the pc-fx? But there's lots of other greedy Japanese and Asian companies that can come to mind.It doesn't help Japanese and Asian corporate culture of extreme wagecuckery created serious brain drain.

Despite Asimov and other soy-fi writers basically saying that this doesn't matter, and that if people feel it is human, that we shoud treat it as such, it is clear that Robots don't really feel emotions, they just appear to due to the perception of people. Any irrational action and appearance of free will is a programming oversight rather than sentience, errors that results from their logic acting on incomplete or incorrect data, and they possess no ability to critically assess that data beyond the parameters that are coded into the machine. It could be ordered to love, and so it would replicate love to the best of it's ability, but at the end of the day it is limited to Man's ability to define what love is or how it functions, so any approximation of love to come from a machine would be hollow and reductive. One might call it robotic, even.
